Scope and Contents The album includes letters from several prominent Edinburgh figures of the early 19th century such as Thomas Thomson, Deputy Clerk Register, and Edward W A Drummond Hay, Principal Clerk, Lyon Office. Both men appear to have been in regular correspondence with William Ford. Amongst the printed items is an "Inventory of Work done for the State by his Majesty's Printer in Scotland 1642-1647" (Edinburgh, 1815), edited by Thomas Thomson. Manuscript additions, 1780: at the beginning a list of the Committee appointed to compose the Liturgy, and at the end "A Prayer for persons under sentence of Death", and "A prayer for the afflicted in this time of Calamity for the prisoners and those that are condemned to Death".

The collection is known both as the `Denmilne State Papers` and the `Denmilne Collection`. Less formally it is often referred to as the `Denmilne Manuscripts`.

Correspondence of Thomas Graham is chiefly with his factor, Henry Burt, concerning his estate of Balgowan, but includes also some letters from eminent friends and acquaintances not included in MSS.3590-3645. There are also papers of Mrs M E Maxtone Graham concerning the publication of her book ‘The beautiful Mrs Graham’, and typescript material and correspondence concerning a projected book on Lord Lynedoch.

Scope and Contents The volume here contains the text for 'History of Cricket in Perth from 1812 to 1894' by William Sievwright. It gives a history of cricket in the area (largely surrounding the Perth Cricket Club), analyses of matches played, information about the cricketers and statistics. The first 128 pages of the volume are printed, while pages 129-413 are manuscript. It is thought that the author ran out of funds to complete the printing of the book, so completed the work in his own hand. ...

Scope and Contents

Peter Cunningham was born at Pimlico in 1816, the third son of Allan Cunningham. He was educated at Christ's Hospital, London and in 1834 obtained a position in the audit office, from which he retired in 1860. He published many works including 'Handbook of Westminster Abbey' (1842); 'Handbook of London' (1849); 'Story of Nell Gwyn' (1852). He also contributed to various periodicals including the 'Illustrated London News' and "Gentleman's Magazine". Cunningham died in 1869.

Dates: 1835-1852.
